Lion Alan explained the duties of the treasurer's position, and persuasive discussion was directed primarily at Lion Bev as a potential replacement for Lion Alan in the position.
Lion Earl fined Lion Chelie for being a suck-up, having sent Lion Kevin a get-well-soon card.
Lion Jerry Iossi explained that the fee to host a booth in the KCOW Home Show in 2005 was increased by $25, from $250 to $275, and that it would include a position inside the building.. Lion Wally moved that we continue to participate in the Home Show.. Lion Kevin seconded the motion, and it was passed.
Lion Lori presented certificates of appreciation from the Salvation Army to all Lions Club participants who rang the bell over the holiday season, and some Lions who simply appeared on the list.
Lion Lori reported that the banquet lottery prize committee was in the process of approaching some businesses that had not previously participated in providing prizes for the lottery, and that the response seems to be positive from potential participants.
Lion Tom reported that one of the prizes we have. the opportunity to accept is a small “egg” grill from Jack's Refrigeration at reduced cost.
7. PROGRAM:. Jeff Minnick
presented a program requesting lottery funds for the Alliance Junior
Tackle Football program.. The football program
serves boys ranging from third grade through sixth grade, with 9
coaches.. 38 kids participated last year, but the
cost was prohibitive for the general public.. The
goal of the program is to reduce family costs to the registration fee
alone, which means establishing a stock of basic protective gear that
can be reassigned to boys year after year.. They are
challenged to find a way to provide assistance for the purchase of
helmets, which would not be the property of the league.. This
assistance would enable more if not all interested boys to play
football in the league.. All league games are played
at the
Lion Tom asked whether it was possible to designate funds so that the equipment provided by the Lions Club could be identified as such and remain in the program, rather than distributing Lions money directly to the participants.. Lion Tom asked whether other funds raised by the league could be used to provide reimbursement for helmets instead.. Jeff said that they would do whatever we chose for them to do, and mentioned that the league also had hopes of purchasing tackling dummies for the program.

1. The meeting of 7/26/2006 was called to order by First Vice President Earl

Lion Vicky reported on a family requesting help with eyeglasses. More information
is needed.
Lion Alan needs more people to help with the Movile Screening Unit at the Fair
on Friday, August 11th. Several more people volunteered. Lion Alan said he would
buy Lion Earl lunch on Friday at the Fair.
Parade float was discussed. Lion Karen is planning one. Other Lions will be
recruited to help with the float. We will assemble the float in Hemingford the
day before. Lion Bill moved, and Lion Pam seconded, to purchase two boxes of
candy from Grocery Kart ot pass out at the parade. Motion carried.
Lion Bill moved and Lion Kathy seconded to order 3 packages for the Peace Poster
Contest. All approved. Lion Bill will contact the secretary to get them ordered.
A letter from District Governor Alice was read concerning District 38L “Pulling
Together”. “ We Serve” is the motto.
A letter from District 38L membership chairperson, Nancy Russell, was read suggesting
we all name one person we could invite to join Lions Club.
Lion Alan asked what our club can do to raise money for Campaign Sight II. We
will consider thin in our lottery next year.
We need to begin planning our next grocery shopping spree to take placd in November.
Lion Vicky cannot chair this committee but would be willing to help.
Lion Earl suggested that for next year’s Lottery entertainment we need
look no further than our own Lion Brian Laffler. He did a great job at Sunday
in the Park.
Suggestions for future programs:
* Lion Alan will get the fair manager to talk at the August 2nd meeting.
* Lion Kathy will line up Sue Steele to talk about Diabetes at our August 9th
meeting.
* Lion Pam will arrange for her son who will be home from Iraq to talk on August
23rd.
We decided to invide the District Governor to Spouse’s Night in February.
It is hoped that there will be club officers present at our next meeting on
August 2nd.

Nebraska. They will provide speakers if we ask them to. Lion Earl moved andLion

President Karell reviewed a brochure from the International Hearing Dog, Inc.
They would like us to send them some money. Issue was tabled until we complete
the budget.
President Karell set a budget meeting for the board of directors for Tuesday,
August 22, 7:00 PM, at Lion Earl’s house, 808 Cheyenne.
Lion Lori spoke about her experiences at Camp Kaleo, the Lion’s camp for
blind or deaf kids. It is located outside of Burwell and is rented by Lions
International for two weeks a year.

suggested that we need a $3000 fund raiser to make the budget work. Lion Earl
suggested selling more tickets for the supermarket sweep, or perhaps, selling
trash bags. It was moved by Lion Earl and seconded by Lion Guy to accept the
budget as presented. Motion carried.
• Lion Alan moved and Lion Chelie seconded to make the business meeting
the second meeting of the month so that financial reports would be current.

• The club approved and invited Jana Benson ofTeammates to present at

• Lion Wilma indicated that she will be gone on October 25 when it is
time to judge the Peace Posters, and asked for volunteers to do the judging.
Lions Chelie, Bill, Sharron, Mike, and Bev volunteered and were appointed to
do so. Lion Wilma indicated that the various schools were notified that if they
want to participate, the posters are due on October 16.
• There is no money budgeted to pick up trash. Therefore, the club needs
to set a time to pick up trash. Lion Lori moved and Lion Larry seconded to do
it on Saturday morning, Sept 23. Motion carried. Show up at mile marker 113.

• Lion Larry indicated that he talked with the Chamber of Commerce to
do an additional NOEL sign. He has acquired the sign and has begun the project.

carried.
•President Karell read a thank-you from Lion Norm Johnson for our hosting
the Mobile Screening Unit at the Fair. He also sent screening results.
•President Karell asked about fund raiser ideas to meet our $3000 deficit
budget. Most of the talk was about a breakfast on opening day of pheasant season.
Proceeds will be designated for the eyeglass program. Lion Jerry looked into
having it at the Legion and it is not available. Lion Guy moved and Lion Chelie
seconded to have the breakfast. It will be a pancake feed on November 4, from
4:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Lion Bill moved and lion Guy seconded to make the fee be
a free will offering. Motion carried.
•Lion Vickie reported that the shopping spree tickets are printed and
ready and began distribution efforts. The drawing will be on November 8 with
the spree on the 18th.
•President Karell asked for additional ideas. Lion Bill proposed selling
Harry Lynn nuts and fruit mixes.

Jana updated the club on the progress that has been made to
stabilize the teammates program. She thanked the Alliance Lions and
past president Lori Rowley for playing an important part in keeping the
program going. Oct 7 is Teammates Day at the Chardon State football
game. Region coordinator is Annette Woodhead (mother of CSC running
back Danny Woodhead). Among planned fund raisers is a night to eat out
at several restaurants in town with a percentage of the profits being
donated to Teammates. These are: Pryors, Arbys, and Casey’s on
September 25; LaVilla on Sept. 26th. At present 15 students are with
mentors and six more are in the process of being placed. Every Tuesday
is Teammate Tuesday at Dairy Queen.
Regarding the Pancake Breakfast on the opening of pheasant season, Lion
President Christine shared that she had contacted some members of the
Fire Department and was told that they were expecting to resume having
their pancake feed on that day. Lion Earl said the Department was
meeting tonight and he would push to have them make a firm decision
since it had been several years since the Fire Department had last held
a pancake feed. A suggestion was made to ask the Fire Department if
they might be interested in our groups putting it on jointly and split
the profits.
Highway clean-up is at 8:00 a.m. Saturday.
Lion Alan informed the club a new LCI policy that beginning Jan. 1st,
International dues for an additional member of the same family will be
half the regular dues.
BBGH is celebrating 30th Anniversary at 4:00 p.m on Saturday Sept 30th
at Central School. The public is invited for a chuckwagon feed. They
suggest bringing chairs.
Lion Lori suggested not selling nuts & fruits because so may other
groups do similar fund raisers . Lion Wally moved that the club not
consider selling any Jenny Lynn products. Motion was seconded and
passed with two no votes.
Lion Vickie said that she had been approached with a request to purchase
a floor model magnifier . Lion Wally thought there might be a used one
available. Lion Earl suggested that ant personal request such as this
only be considered if the amount is no more than what we give for a
pair of eyeglasses. Lion Gail noted that for anyone eligible medicare
can usually get vision related items paid for by the government so that
route should be explored before coming to Lions.
Lion Lori shared that she has been asked about Lions helping a Chadron
resident to purchase eyeglasses. Lion Bill gave her the names of a
couple of the members of the Chadron Lions Club.
Lion Earl has been appointed tailtwister for the next two weeks, when
Lion Lori is out of town.

• It was discussed that the community service organization highway signs

CONTEST:. Lion Bill brought the ribbons that we ordered through Bonnie
Dietrich for the contest winners.. The rosette ribbons in blue or in red
are for the First and Second Place winners.. By a show of hands the simple
ribbon was selected for the honorable mention recipients.. The rosettes
will be $3.25 each, times six.. The simple ribbons are 10 for $5.50..
We will have a few of the simple ribbons left over for next year.

The camp will be held July 29 through Aug 3 this year.. Lion Lori has a
DVD to show us a little more of the camp.. She believes that three campers
will be attending from Alliance, as well as three counselors and herself..
She stressed that it is a terrific experience for campers and for the adults,
and that anyone who can attend will not be sorry.. Several “helpers”
last year stayed in a camper adjacent to the actual camp, to save the tuition
and food expenses.

said that Lion Dave Marion (director of. Camp Kaleo) has received the funds
from our shopping spree, and he is very grateful.. A note to that effect

Gage Snyder was awarded a scholarship a couple of years ago, but did not attend

• Lion Lori introduced Bev Twogood and Dave Ocken from Alliance Pulbic
Schools. Bev and Dave talked about the 21st Century After School Program. This
is a grant program which provides an alternative for students who go home to
an empty house. They made a formal request for $1500 for a TV which is larger
than the 19" one currently available to them.
• Lion Rowley introduced Marcia Buck and Sandy McCarthy of the museum
conservatory. The structure was in need of maintenance and the conservatory
board borrowed $50,000 from the city to do the work. They requested $5,000 from
the Lions lottery to help pay back the loan.
• Lion Lori resigned from the prize committee due to potential conflict
with her city councilship. Lion Bev indicated she would help. It was moved and
seconded for this to happen. Motion carried.
• Lion Lori moved and Lion Vicky seconded to move our meeting location.
Motion carried. Lion Lori has looked into two places and will report to President
Christine next before next week.

Danbom and Schaffert.

• Discussion: Nebraska Lions Foundation offer to send the Mobile Screening
Unit to screen school children in 2007-2008. Moved by lion Earl, seconded by

• Disscussion: Shall we have a booth at the home show. Lion Jerry will
take care of it. Expenses to be paid out of lottery funds. We will sponsor a

• Discussion: Letter from Delmar and Dee Smith of Caing Alliance People

• Lion Earl introduced guest Cindy Zurn, who gave a presentation on the Longest Baseball game for the Knight Museum partners. She showed the club large certificate from Guiness and discussed hopes to advertize the accomplishment on billboards to be viewed by anyone driving into Alliance. She requested $800 for the billboards. Space will be donated on one billboard south of town. Cost of having a vinyl sign made will be $400.
• Lion Wally told Cindy that we are in the process of redoing the Lions
billboards. Lion Guy said that we are legal to add that to the present Lions
billboards as long as we are not collecting from a for-profit organization.
• Lion Allen then introduced Darryl Dockins. He is teaching a chess class
in the after school program at Grandview to 9-11year oldsl. He began a class
on Mondays and Wednesdays; which was so popular that he has added a second class
on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He presently has 14 in Class one and 10 in class
2. He would like to give a chess sets each student who stays with the program
until the end of the school year. The Chess board is a roll up; the pieces are
black and ivory. Included with each set is a primer and a notebook to keep track
of games. If 50 sets ordered the price drops from about $40 to about $8 and
there will be enough to do the same for another year. Other add ons he would
like to get are bags. Total expense would be about $1400.
• A presentation was made to Lion Don Hansen to commemorate his 25 years
of membership in Lions (beginning with the former Hemingford club).
• Lion Alan gave a treasurer’s report which was approved.
• Lion Jerry raised a question about which account should receive donations to the Lottery dinner. Vickie moved and Lion Karen seconded to put all donations into the Lottery fund, not into the Administrative account. Motion assed unanimously.
• Lion Chris shared a sample of a possible Alliance Lions Club brochure
to update the ones we’ve been using for the last five or so years. There
was consensus that all donations the club has made since that time should be
listed. It is possible that the brochures might have to be a four fold on legal
sized paper.
• Lion Earl moved and Lion Vickie seconded to fine Lion Kevin for only
sending a notice of the need for a secretary and not actually finding a substitute.

• Chad Bell and Gary Bauer of the Red Cross: presented about the Red Cross
babysitting program which they would like to reimplement. They need $2500 to
get it going.
• Sam Rodriguez of Boy Scout Troop 216 Adventure Group: presented about
the Adventure Group. They would like a donation of $300 for help to attend a
Laramie Peak bicycle run.
• The eyeglass committee has approved two people for assistance.

• Lion Jerry reported that everything is ready for the Home-Show booth

• It was moved by Lion Bill and seconded by Lion Earl to reduce the dues
of one spouse in a married couple by $20. Motion carried.

• Lottery discussion: Lion Steve indicated that the prize list is not
entirely complete, but is being finalized. Lion Chelie will talk with Lion Brian
about providing sound amplification and some background music. Lion Chelie indicated
that the B-ball girls have agreed to draw the chips for the lottery this year.
We will use poker chips and a tumbler for the drawing.
• Lion Jerry indicated that Lou Nerling from the Chamber of Commerce asked

President Karell reminded members that next Wednesday is our picnic/installation
at the Sallows Conservatory 6:00 PM. The following Wednesday is July 4. We will
not be meeting that day.
President Karell announced that on June 29, next Friday at 11:00, Jake McCaffery
is riding at the Buckboard Riding Academy and we are invited to watch.
President Karell asked whether we would be doing anything for Heritage Days,
the parade, or Sunday in the Park. The issue was deferred to the parade committee.
It will probably be the Lion in the pickup with walkers handing out candy.
Lion Bill has delivered about 8 boxes of glasses to Gordon to be taken to the
international convention.

The meeting of 6/27/2007 opened for the annual family picnic and installation
at the Sallows Military Museum. Dinner was left-over banquet meat and pot luck

President Karell recognized DG Lion Alice Brown.
Lion Lori announced that a representative from Camp Kalleo would like to do
a presentation for us on July 25th.

Lion Kevin presented to Lion Bill Graham in absentia the Melvin Jones Award.
Lion Kathy Graham accepted on his behalf and initiated a cell phone call to
notify Lion Bill.

Lion Wilma told us about her art show at Carnegie, and invited us to the opening
this Sunday from 1pm thru 3pm. The show will be at Carnegie through September.

6. PROGRAM:
Lion Lori introduced Lion Mike Athey. Lion Mike presented a program about Camp
Kaleo 2006 in Burwell. The camp is for Visually and Hearing Impaired children
from all over the state and there is no cost to the children. In 2006 18 children
attended. Lion Lori was the camp nurse. Lion Mike is a counselor who has been
attending longer than he can remember. We watched a slide show of pictures from
the 2006 camp. At the end of the presentation it was moved and seconded to give
Lion Mike $50 to help him with gas for driving to Alliance to present this program.

it paid off. There have been no failures. Gum balls will be ordered.

* Guest Speaker: Ron Nuss-Warren who is the Chaplain for Prairie Haven Hospice
in the Panhandle. Ron told us all about what he does for Hospice.

for missing the last three weeks. Secretary Wilkinson paid the unconstitutional
and evil assessment despite the extreme danger of the club’s actions causing
increases in property taxes.
• Lion Alan Danbom suggested we fine President Earl for putting on his
badge and pin after the bell was rung.
• Lion Alan Danbom talked about potential peach sales. Lion Alan bought
several lugs and distributed peaches to members to evaluate whether we would
like to join in this foundation fund raising project. They cost us $22 per lug.
We would probably sell them for $28.
• Today's 50:50 drawing: $8.50 to Lion Harold Roller.
• Tail Twister Vickie asked some trivia questions. We now know that the
small insestine is 22 ft long and a cow gives 22,000 glasses of milk in a lifetime.

and nothing in the spring (our budgeted amount is $150). Motion carried.
• Lion Earl indicated that we can begin selling tickets at Grocery Kart
now. Lion Earl circulated a sign-up sheet for members to reserve time slots
to do so. Lion Bill suggested that we phone non-attending members to help sell
at Grocery Kart.

We may assume the feed will grow annually.
• Tail Twister Vickie gave Trick or Treat candies to all members and round
tuit fine credits to members who helped with the pancake feed.
• Lion Kevin asked for help with the Secretary duties next week as he
will be in Omaha. Lion Bill Graham volunteered to take minutes.

Shopping spree went well Saturday. Bev Twogood got $374.70 worth of gorceries
plus a $50 gift certificate. This is a new record. $1,335 worth of tickets were
sold. The club viewed the Shopping Spree video created by Lion Christine.
President Jones will be posting press releases about the upcoming lottery. There
was some discussion about the screening criteria for future lotteries: no funding
of individuals, making a presentation to the club is required, local use of
the money, accountability for proper use of the money, etc.
Lion Alan indicated that the individual whom we have been helping get hearing
aides is elated about the help he got from the Lions Hearing Aide Bank through
us. Total cost was only about $75.
Lion Alan presented the October 2007 treasurer’s report. The report was
accepted as presented.

memorial to Lion Keith. The memorial totaled $60.

Lions foundation for a builder’s brick in honor of Lion Keith Lyster.
• Lion Alan reported that the person whom we are helping get hearing aides
has gotten the molds and is waiting for the aides.
• President Jones read a request for lottery funds from Habitat for Humanity
to purchase $600 worth of hand tools. President Jones will make arrangements
for Mimi Roller to make a presentation next week.
• President Jones read a letter from Dave Essay and Gordon Hoff who are
on the board of the Post Playhouse. The letter requested financial support for
the Post Playhouse.

• President Jones introduced Carol Dubray who introduced her son Preston.
Mrs. Dubray requested assistance to make a trip to Dallas for surgery on Preston’s

individuals are members of the Box Butte County Habitat for Humanity board of

$600 in lottery funds to purchase hand tools for their construction projects.
• President Jones indicated the Alliance High School Harmonics will be
performing for us at the December 19th meeting. Lion Christine moved and Lion
Steve seconded invite them to sing only. Motion carried. Lion Lori Rowley moved
and Lion Howard seconded to give them a $50 donation. Lion Lori amended the
motion to $75 seconded by Lion Mike. Amendment carried. Motion carried. We will
donate to $75 to the AHS Harmonics.
• Lion Alan reported that he discussed with Mr. Hoff whether the Fort
Robinson Post Playhouse request is for lotter finds. Mr. Hoff indicated that
it is. He will be asked to present at a future meeting.
• President Jones reported that he received a letter from Delmar Smith
requesting a donation to his organization, Caring Alliance People. They would
like $750.00 for their organization to apply for 501c3 status. Lion Lori Rowley
moved and Lion Wally seconded to ask them to come and make the request at a

asking us to purchase a membership for $10 or a voting membership for $20. There

Directors of the Post Playhouse for us to purchase a sponsorship for the upcoming

• Lion Kevin indicated that he received a message from Mary Wernke indicating
that we are using 95MB of space on her webserver. She would like her sponsored

• Alliance Public Schools band director Dick Rischling spoke on the band’s
upcoming July trip to Washington, DC. The band will leave at 1:00 AM on July
2nd; first flight from Denver is at 5:00 AM. Dick talked about the fact that
the band needs new shoes at a total cost of about $4,500.00 and suggested that
the Lions Club might want to donate toward this amount. $1500 has already been
donated. Another way to donate would be for us to feed the band once. A meal
to feed the whole entourage costs about $6,000.
• Lion Vickie brought the plaque we had made for Megan Gould. President
Jones will see if Megan can attend a future meeting for us to present her the
plaque.
• Tailtwister Vickie presented some facts about the most expensive coffee
beans in the world. It comes from civet poop.
• Treasurer Danbom presented a monthly financial report.
• President Jones indicated that after CAP we have no other lottery requests.

a newspaper photo.
• Next week we will hear funding requests from “East Point Horspice”
and Alliance Adult Basic Education Program. On February 6 we will have someone
from the Park Foundation and someone from the Knight Museum.
• President Jones listed several options for food for the banquet. All
food catered; all food catered except meat, but Kinser can’t do it; they
do everything and Kelly will cook the meat with a guarantee. Lion Alan moved
and Lion Karen seconded that we have them cater and have Kelly cook us samples
for a lunch meal. Motion carried.
• On January 30th the Legion will be serving the lunch special only. On
that day, we will meet in the bar area.
• On March 5 we will need to meet somewhere else. The whole Legion property
is rented. Lion Lori moved and Lion Bill seconded to meet at Central school.
Motion carried. Earl will make the arrangements.
• Lion Ron commented that it might be a good thing to invite a Boy’s
Rancher to a meeting once a month.

• Raffle tickets will take about 2 weeks from when we order. Therefore,
it is possible for us to have them for the Home Show. Lion Earl moved and Lion

• President Earl Jones moved and Lion Guy seconded to have a booth at
the home show. Motion carrried.
• A sympathy card for Lion Brian Lafler was circulated for members to
sign regarding the loss of his son-in-law.
• A get well card for Lion Sharron Jones was circulated for members to

• President Earl Jones introduced Sandy McCarthy and Marsha Buck of the
Alliance Parks Foundation. Sandy made a presentation requesting lottery funds.
They need new plants for the tropical section of the indoor garden.
• President Earl Jones introduced Adrian Gonzalez , coach of the American
Legion Post 7 Baseball program. Adrian made a presentation requesting lottery
funds. In specific, Bower-Shankland field needs a lot of work on the fence and
backstop.
• President Earl Jones introduced Mary Wernke of the Knight Museum Foundation.
Mary made a presentation requesting $5,000 of lottery funds to apply toward
muesum displays.

• Treasurer Danbom gave a monthly financial report.
• Blake Becker of Junior Bank Board and Jean Nelson of First National
Bank made a presentation about Junior Bank Board. They requested an unspecified
amount of money to help fund a trip to Denver to tour other banks.
• Darwin French of the Old Timers Baseball Association made a presentation
reqeusting lottery funds. They would like to install a movable mound at a cost
of $775.
• Chad Bell and Erica Haskell of the Red Cross made a presentation requesting
lottery funds. They would like help funding swimming lessons since they now
have a payroll of $3600. They would like $1500 to enable them to keep their
swimming lesson fee cap at $20 per family. Last year they taught 300 kids in
Alliance and 76 in Hemingford.
• Kevin Horn and Stacy Imig of St. Agnes Academy made a presentation requesting
lottery funds. They would like to upgrade the auditorium sound system. It will
cost up to $7000.
• Stan Bills of the Nebraska Boys Ranch made a presentation requesting
lottery funds. He would like to put a new computer in the campus school room.
It will cost about $1,280.
• Stacy Mack of the YMCA made a presentation requesting lottery funds.
They need to replace a roof-top heating and cooling unit to support their child
care program. They currently can only use the area on a seasonal basis because
of uncomfortable temperatures. They need up to $2,000.
• Colleen Busch of the Alliance Police Department made a presentation
requesting lottery funds. They need various items to assist with child abuse
investigations. This includes equipment for transcribing forensic interviews
with children, MySpace training software, a camcorder, etc. Total cost of all
requested items is $1417.00.
• President Jones announced that the winter meeting in Lexington is March
22 and 23. They’ll have Keith Lyster’s brick for us to bring home
at that time.
• Lion Ron Fletcher reported that Nebraska Boys Ranch would have a boy
available to attend meetings from time to time. He will get it organized.

• Lion Alan presented a letter from the Girl Scout Association asking
for a letter of commendation for two local scouts, Amy Watson or Bridget Scherbarth.

• Lion Earl read a thank-you note from the foundation for the memorial
for Jack Manion.
• Lion Earl announced that the state level organization is asking for
us to submit names for members to serve at the state level.
• Lion Earl indicated that we might have to consider options if Lion Chelie
cannot be president next year. Lion Karen Boysen will move up one chair to cover
if necessary.
• Lion Earl indicated that we do not have a downtown location to sell
lottery tickets this year. Lion Sharron will see if we can offer them for sale
at First National Bank.
• Lion Earl distributed a sign-up to work the Home-Show booth. It was
moved by Lion Jerry and seconded by Lion Guy to give away in a drawing $25 in
chamber bucks each day. Motion carried. We need to have the white canes there
as well as some brochures.
• Lion Earl has notified all lottery applicants of whether their requests
will be funded.

• President Jones read a letter he received from York, NE. asking for
our participation in Liberty Day Nebraska. The purpose is to give copies of
the Constitution to all US children. Lion Alan moved and Lion Guy seconded that
we do not participate. Motion carried.
• President Jones read a letter from the Alliance Public Library / Chamber
of Commerce summer reading program. For reading books, children can earn wrist
bands for rides at the Heritage Days carnival. • Lion Lori moved and Lion
Sharron seconded to give $45. Lion Guy moved to amend and Lion Bill seconded
to give $150. Amendment carried. Motion carried.
• Lion Bill reported on the District Convention which he and Lion Alan
attended last Friday night.
• President Jones presented information on the Sight II program. We gave
$1,000 last year, but nothing so far this year.
• All members seated at Table 2 were fined for talking.
• Lion Sharron indicated that she would be able to sell lottery tickets
out of the First National Bank. She took several books to do so.
• The prize committee situation was discussed. Lion Larry Snyder can’t
do it this year. Lion Bev has been working on prizes, as well as Lion Wally.
Lions Karen and Bev will handle the whole thing.
• Lion Vickie indicated that scholarship applications have been distributed
and are due back on April 22nd.
• President Jones displayed the brick we received from the Lions Foundation
in the name of Lion Keith Lyster. We will present it to Lion Keith’s family
at the banquet.

in Chamber Bucks on Saturday. The winner was Tina Krebs. Five people registered
as potential members. On Sunday, 22 people registered. Elaine Bleisch won the
$25 in Chamber Bucks. There were many questions about where people could drop
off eyeglasses. We probably need to do a better job of publicizing the drop
off locations.
• President Jones read an inviation for club members to attend the Girl
Scout Gold award ceremony for Bridget Scherbarth and Amy Watson on Sunday, March
30, 2008, 2:00 PM at the Immanuel Lutheren Church.
• Tail Twister Hielscher reviewed the word of the week and fined a few
people. She also asked about the photos on the home page. In addition she asked
some Easter trivia questions.
• Today's 50:50 drawing: $7 to Lion Harold.
• Lion Larry reminded the club that the trash pickup needs to happen soon
- perhaps in concert with the Clean Community System’s cleanup day.
• Lion Vickie is beginning to receive scholarship applications.
• President Jones indicated that Amy Watson has agreed to draw the prize
winners at the lottery banquet. In addition, Laurie Gould will accept the plaque
for the winning peace poster on behalf of her daughter Megan

• The club received a letter asking that highway cleanup be done between
April 12th & 26th. It will be on Sunday afternoon April 20th at 1:30 p.m.
• A motion was made to let Lion Larry be fined more than the usual maximum

• Lion Alan asked whether anyone has our sales tax exempt certificate.
No one knows anything about it. In order for us to be exempted we need a sales
tax exempt number. Lion Alan will talk to his accountant for additional information
and get in touch with the Nebraska Department of Revenue if necessary.
• Lions Earl, Kathy, and Howard represented us at the Girl Scout Gold
award ceremony. Tail Twister Vickie fined everyone else for being absent.
• Lion Bill received an email encouraging people not to use the new $1
coins because they do not have “In God We Trust” engraved on them.
This is incorrect and Lion Bill encourages everyone to use the coins.
• Lottery: The committee is continuing to work on the prize list. Ticket
sales are progressing.
• Lion Jerry has looked into the Legion sound system. It works some of
the time and it is not realistic to use it. Lion Brian will bring his sound
system for us to use.
