presented a program requesting lottery funds for the Alliance Junior
Tackle Football program.. The football program
serves boys ranging from third grade through sixth grade, with 9
coaches.. 38 kids participated last year, but the
cost was prohibitive for the general public.. The
goal of the program is to reduce family costs to the registration fee
alone, which means establishing a stock of basic protective gear that
can be reassigned to boys year after year.. They are
challenged to find a way to provide assistance for the purchase of
helmets, which would not be the property of the league.. This
assistance would enable more if not all interested boys to play
football in the league.. All league games are played
at the Carpenter
Center in
Scottsbluff.. Total estimated cost per participant,
NOT including travel and meals, is $200 for a season. The league has
already raised funds that should cover some costs, and if undesignated,
the money received from Lions Club would go toward standard amount
“rebates” for families who purchase helmets..
Lion Tom asked whether it was possible to
designate funds so that the equipment provided by the Lions Club could
be identified as such and remain in the program, rather than
distributing Lions money directly to the participants.. Lion
Tom asked whether other funds raised by the league could be used to
provide reimbursement for helmets instead.. Jeff
said that they would do whatever we chose for them to do, and mentioned
that the league also had hopes of purchasing tackling dummies for the
program.
